2019 Subaru Crosstrek

The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is Ready to Hit the Off-Road Around Shrewsbury, MA

The Subaru crossover lineup has come a long way since the 2010s. 2011's Subaru XV concept became 2012's XV Crosstrek, and in 2016, that became the subcompact SUV beloved in the segment that we know today in 2018. But now, in its hallmark 2.0i, 2.0i Premium, and 2.0i Limited trims, the new Subaru Crosstrek is back and better than ever for a new 2019 model year, built just as rugged for all-terrain adventure and with the everyday versatility of a hatchback its enthusiasts crave. Check it out for yourself here at Patrick Subaru!

A Model of Subaru-Powered Performance

One of the most important aspects of what makes a Subaru a Subaru is its four-cylinder SUBARU BOXER® engine, and the new 2019 Crosstrek offers a 2.0-liter model shelling 152-horsepower. Like its contemporaries, it's horizontally opposed, "flat" versus in-line, with laterally designed pistons that deliver efficient power more directly.

Factor in an available X-MODE® and standard Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, and you gain an excellently balanced ride and reliable capability across the landscape. The system's permanent and always on, too, part of the architecture and proactive with traction, as distinguished from other automakers' electronic "slip-then-grip" AWD systems. That means compensation for both front-wheel understeer and rear-wheel oversteer, resulting in confident handling, as well as fewer moving parts, making it low-maintenance.

Better yet, the small SUV's 145 pound-feet of torque makes possible towing up to 1,500 pounds as well as anywhere from 20.8 cubic feet of cargo to 55.3 with 60/40-split flat-folding rear seating collapsed. Bring raised roof rails into the mix, and that's enough capacity for everything from luggage and camping gear to a small pop-up tent camper.

Of course, shifting gears along the way is a pleasure, too, thanks to either a six-speed manual, fully synchronized for smoother changes than the everyday hands-on kind, or an easy-to-use optional Lineartronic® continuously variable transmission. No matter whether you're the sporty type or more road-focused, however, you can count on respectable fuel economy -- up to 23-27 mpg around a city like Worcester 29-33 mpg down the highway between Westborough to Marlborough, according to EPA estimates and depending on transmission.

Impeccable Safety Credentials

A four-wheel independent raised suspension and 8.7 inches of ground clearance might make the new Crosstrek a comfortable traveler when it comes to avoiding obstacles, but it's with its enormous roster of safety and driver-assist features that the subcompact crossover truly shines.

For one, optional EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology makes it easy to stay on course while keeping aware and, when needed, clear of other traffic and potential accidents, while standard Active Torque Vectoring responds eagerly to driving inputs with precision around corners. Secondly, available features like Blind-Spot Detection/Rear Cross-Traffic Alert add a layer of situational awareness, while optional Reverse Automatic Braking provides it in advance of a rear collision. Third, optional fog lighting becomes Steering Responsive Fog Lights in select trims, cutting through the thick of dim conditions around bends.

You can even find an expanded SUBARU STARLINK Safety and Security suite available, with more than its abilities to call first responders roadside assistance. Now, you can also get notifications on maintenance, a Monthly Vehicle Health Report, diagnostic alerts, and even remotely start your engine and adjust climate control in models like Crosstrek Limited. That's not to mention that you can lock or unlock it with an app, take advantage of Concierge services, and more.

Interior and Technology at the Industry's Forefront

Best of all, the new Subaru Crosstrek is as accommodating as ever for 2019. Your choice of cloth and leather-trimmed seating appears, and it's available heated up front and available power-adjustable for the driver, all under an optional power tilting and sliding moonroof -- a lap of luxury you'll be hard-pressed to find elsewhere.

Additionally, four infotainment options appear, a bump for the new model year. One is a 6.5-inch STARLINK Multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which enables you to connect your smartphone and access and control its features from the dash. The second and third are 6.5- and 8.0-inch Multimedia Plus choices with cloud-based app support. The final is an 8.0-inch Multimedia Navigation model with convenient voice activation, GPS guidance, SiriusXM All Access Radio, Traffic, and Travel Link updates, and NFC technology to integrate a variety of mobile devices. Add optional 4G LTE Wi-Fi capability, and you can enjoy a connection to the Internet off the beaten path. But let's not forget entertainment for that road. A selection of four- and six-speaker audio system options becomes a 432-watt, eight-speaker Harman Kardon variant in higher trims, making your road mix and an anthem.
