Subaru Crosstrek Comparison

See How the Subaru Crosstrek Compares to the Kia Seltos

The Kia Seltos recently emerged as one of the newest challengers in the small SUV market. This compact model is popular due to its off-roading capabilities and overall versatility, but can it outmatch Subaru in these categories? Subaru SUVs have long enjoyed status as some of the most adventure-worthy vehicles, especially the Subaru Crosstrek. Let us see how the iconic Crosstrek SUV takes on this brand-new competitor from the Kia brand to see where each stands.

Shoppers will find the new Subaru Crosstrek here at Patrick Subaru, located in Shrewsbury and just 15 minutes outside of Westborough, MA.

Performance and Efficiency

The Right UV should pack the right punch under the hood to maximize its capability. The Subaru Crosstrek features a standard SUBARU BOXER® engine, generating 152-horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. The standard engine of the Kia Seltos falls short in its output, generating 146 horsepower and 132 pound-feet. The Subaru Crosstrek also offers better fuel economy for daily driving in Marlborough, MA, traveling an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. The Seltos' standard engine allows this Kia SUV to travel up to 27 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The Seltos also holds much less fuel compared to the tank of the Subaru Crosstrek.

The Subaru Crosstrek also comes available as a hybrid SUV, which is as of now, not an available option for the Kia Seltos.

Interior and Features

  • While the passenger volume of the Kia Seltos is unlisted, this crossover lacks a lot of front legroom for you and your copilot to enjoy, which the Subaru Crosstrek more than makes up for with its almost 110 cubic feet of passenger volume.
  • Crosstrek Sport trim comes available with a dual X-MODE feature, to optimize the AWD, as well as other helpful off-roading gear like StarTex® water-repellant upholstery. Both of these conveniences are absent from the Kia Seltos, though all-wheel-drive is the standard of its base trim.

Exterior

  • The ground clearance of an SUV is important in determining its off-road effectiveness. Generally, vehicles should sit at a minimum of seven inches off the ground for the best safety and undercarriage protection on the trails. The Subaru outback sits at a high ground clearance of 8.7 inches, while the Kia Seltos sits above the ground at 7.3 inches. While meeting the minimum height requirement, the Crosstrek ensures proper safety and distance on all sorts of terrain.
  • The Subaru Crosstrek comes available with a windshield wiper de-icer on most trims, through the All-Weather Package. This exterior feature comes in handy during the freezing rain and snow, though it does not come available on the Kia Seltos.

Safety

All trims of the Subaru Crosstrek come available with EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, including Pre-Collison Braking/Throttle Management, Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, and Lane Departure and Sway Warning. These high-tech features have equivalent features on the Seltos, through the Kia Drive Wise safety suite. However, only one driver-assist safety feature comes standard on the Seltos: Rear Occupant Alert. All other high-tech driver-assist features are only available on select trims of this Kia crossover.

Test Drive the New Subaru Crosstrek Today

While the Kia Seltos is advertised as an adventure-worthy SUV, you might find its least-expensive trim lacks many of the standard features of the Subaru Crosstrek. If you want the right crossover that you can take anywhere in any weather, then the new Crosstrek is a great bet for you! Visit Patrick Subaru to learn more about this new crossover and take one for a test drive. We are less than 15 minutes outside of Worcester, MA and we hope to hear from you soon!
